Since video games have become a major source of entertainment for children, parents have been concerned about content. Whether it’s time spent playing or the violence and sexuality that increasingly seems to be a driver in game content, parents are filled with anxiety about what their children are playing. .

It’s a tough road to travel when video games that are supposed to be for kids seem to be overwhelmingly adult. Parents are doing their best to watch what their young children are watching, but it is getting harder and harder every day.

There is so much content, much of it seems to be aimed at young children. But, some content, especially video game content, is NOT.

What is Huggy Wuggy?

Although I am not familiar with the Huggy Wuggyor the video game poppy play timeI’ve seen many posts from parents and law enforcement on social media warning parents about the video game’s violent content and themes with characters that look like oversized creepy stuffed animals.

Many are even upset by the song linked to the Huggy Wuggy character.

Parent Warning Regarding Huggy Wuggy

Lafayette County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Warning to Parents

The video game was rated for ages 8 or older, but was later updated for ages 12 or older. The game teaches young audiences that their toys and other items they once felt comfortable with are now scary and can kill them.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a warning to parents due to a series of videos surrounding Poppy Playtime character Huggy Wuggy. The warnings are due to the character’s initially child-friendly visuals, which very quickly turn into a nightmare.

The affected videos are FAN-MADE, produced by someone who admires a particular TV show, movie or video game. Here is a list of some of the YouTube channels that made the affected videos:

In one of the videos, a cartoon character says to a cartoonist, “My hugs don’t hurt at all, you’ll be dead before the pain comes!” The character then hugs the person and hugs them until they turn blue and pass out.

In another video, a female character is drugged, passes out, and it is inferred that a sexual assault has been perpetrated against her. In the same video, the female character’s husband sees a video of the sexual assault and thinks the female character has committed adultery. The male character then hits the female character and divorces her.

Players Defend Huggy Wuggy

This video seeks to put concerns about video games into perspective. If you look at the comments, you can read how players explain the misconception. They explain the game and its intention in great detail.

Many of them feel that the warnings from the police and parents are ridiculous and unjustified. When it comes to the poppy play time video game, they criticize parents for not supervising their young children who could be exposed to the game.

Parents’ perspective on Huggy Wuggy

After researching and watching the videos, I can honestly say I understand the concern. I understand that players want to defend the game, the story and the reason behind the character, but I have a real problem with any type of media that is strictly for adults but uses childish characters and songs.

At one point the game said it was for ages 8 and up. I hope you are joking??!?! It has since been changed to 12+, but come on. The name, the characters and the music, everything is aimed at children. I find this type of deliberate, deviant maneuver to sell inappropriate things to children totally unacceptable.

Shame on MOB games. You know better, but you chose to do it anyway. If it’s for adults, make the characters look more adult and make sure they’re labeled for adults.

ATTENTION PARENTS: Huggy Wuggy is NOT for your young children.
