By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) and the Belize Credit Union League (BCUL) signed a Technical Partnership Agreement (TPA) on September 20 to provide financing to farmers and producers .
The APT is expected to “strengthen technical support to beneficiary farmers, producers and processors in the agriculture, aquaculture and animal husbandry sectors in all districts of Belize,” a statement from the press office of Belize said. government of Belize.
The agreement was signed on September 20 by Servulo Baeza, director general of the Ministry of Agriculture, Minister Jose Abelardo Mai and BCUL program coordinator Lindburgh Smith, a MAFSE Facebook post said.
MAFSE said the TPA includes information and training exchanges between the two institutions.
MAFSE also said the agreement is a step forward in Plan Belize’s 11-point agricultural policy which seeks affordable financing for farmers.
“The TPA is part of the EcoMicro adaptation program, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB Lab) and Global Affairs Canada (GAC), and aims to fund loans, through the Belize Credit Union League (BCUL) to facilitate the adaptation of green technologies and methodologies that will strengthen climate resilience and improve the overall productivity of the agriculture, aquaculture and livestock sectors, ”the statement said.
On September 20, MAFSE signed a similar ATP with the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to provide finance to farmers and businesses.
