LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Center Corporation (LCC) announced Friday that it will accept proposals to qualify one or more developers to develop properties in the heart of downtown Lexington.
According to Central Bank Center, the specific location of the High Street development project site is currently used as a large surface parking lot located directly across High Street from the newly expanded Central Bank Center (CBC) and the renovated Rupp Arena and is generally bordered by Lexington Center Drive, Maxwell Street and High Street.
The site is approximately 17.5 contiguous acres.
This project, planned to build an assembled site in the 1970s in an urban environment with greater density and greater use, has long been considered in the long-term planning process of the city center.
The proposed development should support the activities of the Central Bank Center, especially parking, but also add opportunities to contribute to a more vibrant city center.
It was recently considered in 2012 as part of the Rupp Arena Arts & Entertainment District project.
A request for qualification of potential developers published in 2016 was put on hold pending an application to the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority for a financial district tax increase or TIF which was granted in late 2019.
